Other Activities
1. Are any of your family members, friends, or neighbors miners? If so, ask them what their experiences were like. Write down their answers and save them for your family and future relatives to read.
2.After reading some of the histories of Park City miners you have an idea about what life in the mines and a mining town was like. Now take what you've read and write your own short story or poem or even draw a picture of what you think a mine, mine town, miner looks like.
3. Click here to return to the diagram of a mine. Can you match some of the mining terms to the diagram?
4. You've learned that miners dug deep in the ground to get different kinds of minerals. Now its your turn. Visit your local natural history museum to find out where you might get some more information on the rocks in your area. Then, start collecting! Build your own rock collection. Find rocks that are interesting colors, shapes, and textures and find out what type they are. You can amaze your friends and family with your knowledge and beautiful stones!
If you are in Park City visit the Museum and walk through a virtual mine shaft.
