In 1883 George Kidder purchased these lots from George Snyder and built a large house, twice the size of the portion remaining today. George Kidder had operated Park City’s local lumber business from 1877 to 1893. Located at the site of the town lift, the Kidder & Bros. Lumber Company sold wood from the local mills including George’s own sawmill in Upton, near Coalville.

In 1892, George Kidder sold his house on this property to Richard and Mannie Cordell for $1500. To afford such an expensive property, the Cordells obtained a loan from Albion Emery, one of the partners in the Silver King Coalition Mine Company, with David Keith and Thomas Kearns. Albion’s wife was Susanna Bransford, and when Albion died suddenly in 1894, Susanna inherited his estate. By 1900 she was worth $100,000,000.

Susanna assumed the Cordell’s mortgage, which they paid off by 1898. By 1914, the Cordells had moved to Salt Lake City and sold to Edna Sutton of 713 Norfolk (also on the tour) for $250.

Even though the northerly portion of the home has been demolished, the property recently sold for more than $400,000. The home is in sad shape but the current owners plan to renovate and restore the home back to its former glory.
