William and Rachel Dennison purchased this lot from David McLaughlin and the Park City Townsite Corporation for $125 and built this t-cottage. Rachel had been born in Norway in 1859 and came to America when she was just 15 years old. She settled in Park City in 1881, and married William Dennison at the Methodist Church on Park Ave. William also had arrived in Park City in 1881. As a young man he enlisted in the US Army and was appointed as one of the body guard to escort General Custer to military posts in Montana. His company came to Salt Lake City in 1881 but was soon ordered to Duschesne because of Indian trouble. While camped at Park City awaiting further orders, William’s enlistment expired and he remained here for the rest of his life. One of Williams proud boasts, according to his obituary in the Park Record newspaper was “that when a little chap in his home town of Springfield [IL], he was privileged to sit on the lap of beloved President Abraham Lincoln.

Having no children, Rachel moved to Salt Lake City after William’s death in 1928 and lived with her sister’s son, Arthur Hansen. She sold the home in 1932, two weeks before her death.
Although the home appears to be connected to 901 Woodside, only a porch has enclosed the four foot wide side yard.
