Howard Coleman moved to Park City in 1920 after working as a porter for the Pullman Company for 15 years and serving three years in the U.S. Army in Europe during WWI. Howard lived in this house for most of his 61 years in Park City.

For more than 35 years, Howard worked for the Postal Service. His beautiful flower garden next to the post office was legendary. He endeared himself to all who knew him with his cheerful, helpful and kind manner. Howard served the community in other ways as a trustee, deacon and, sometimes, minister of the Park City Community Church and as commander of the local American Legion Post. He also maintained the cemetery flags on Memorial Day and Armistice (Veterans) Day.

In 1937, Howard’s wife, Nanny Jordan, died suddenly while visiting her family in Southern California. Her death came as a shock and Howard heard the sad news at the same time that he received a letter from her extolling the “sunny clime” of California. After her death Howard married Cloud. When Cloud died Howard renewed his acquaintance with Justine Carter. The happy couple was married in this house in 1946. Although Justine and Howard had only seen each other twice before they got married, twenty years later they still claimed that love at first sight had endured.

After his retirement Howard and Justine traveled a little and enjoyed having their many friends visit them in their home on Empire Avenue. Howard died on September 1, 1981, just three weeks after celebrating his 95th birthday.
